Dales Pony Portraits

Native to the UK’s mountain and moorland, the Dales Pony is strong, intelligent, and well-tempered. Although originally used as a working pony, and also by the British Army (almost becoming extinct during the second World War!), the Dales Pony is nowadays often found in the showjumping or dressage arena or cross-country eventing. The Dales Pony is usually very dark in colour, often black, which can present a challenge when drawing pencil portraits. However, when working from a well-lit photograph, they come out well in graphite pencil. Find out how to commission your Dales Pony pencil portrait here.
